Top Ten Items For Deer Hunting 2013

1. Summit Viper SD Treestand $259.97 (price subject to change)Weighing just 20 pounds and constructed of Aluminum.  This stand is designed for trees that are 8 to 20 inches in diameter.  The seat height is adjustable, and can be raised for bow hunting, or lowered for rifle hunting.  This treestand is light, packs up easy, and comfortable for all-day sitting. Overall Dimensions are 20 by 36 inches & Maximum Weight Capacity is 300 pounds.

2. Allen Company Instant Roof Tree Stand Umbrella (Oakbrush, 57-Inch) $15.60 (price subject to change): "I recently purchased the tree stand umbrella for this season opening bow season. It rained all day where I was at and it did not effect my hunt one bit aside from not seeing to much game that day. It was defiantly a great buy on my part. It sets up real easy and is worth every penny."

3. Guide Gear 17 1/2' Deluxe 2 - man Ladder Tree Stand $139.99 (price subject to change)

Tree Stand features roomy 40 x 30 1/4" full-access foot platform and a Flip-up 38 3/4 x 11 1/2" cushioned seatSeat with a height of 20 1/2".  It attaches securely with 2 looped ratchet straps. Tree stand features a padded backrest and shooting rail.  It is quiet and has a non-skid, raised mesh platform.

4. Browning Nitro Headlamp Mossy Oak Break Up $44.39 (price subject to change): "Excellent brightness. The Blue light works great for blood trailing and moving around camp/cabin without disturbing others. You could use the Red light for moving around also. Doesn't slip around your head while in use like other models I have tried, and the hat attachment works just as well. I really like the individual light selector and separate on/off switch. You select which light you want to use and then turn it on/off as needed. The other model I have, you have to cycle through the different light settings with the on/off switch. I highly recommend this light to anyone that spends any amount of time in the outdoors."

5. Allen Company Tree Stand Carry Straps $17.93 (price subject to change): "I use these straps on my climber stand. The way the stand packs together you have to connect the top of the strap to one section and the bottom of the strap to the other section of the stand, These straps have quick release buckles that make it very easy to do. When my stand is in the tree I use the straps to connect the top and bottom sections in case the bottom section falls. This is much easier and faster than using string and tying knots."

6. Hunting Solutions Inc The Millenium Hang On Treestand $216.30 (price subject to change): "I hunt in Africa and have used other tree stands before. Many trees in my hunting area in Africa are not straight and have a lot of branches, so I was looking for a tree stand, which I can place on any part of the tree I want. After a lot of research on the Internet, I saw many hang on tree stands. Once I saw the Millenium Hang On Treestand, I knew that was the one I wanted. After reading more about it, I ordered one and have been totally satisfied. The chain that goes around the tree is very strong and the receiver mount that the chair sits in is very secure. The chair itself is very comfortable. It holds your body well and in a good, relaxing position. The straps on each side are strong and well positioned to use as armrests, and the length and width of the foot rest is very comfortable. I am a fan of Millenium Tree Stands. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with any of them. Three years ago, I bought the Millenium M1. I liked that one, too, because it's very comfortable to sit on all day and all night. In Africa, we hunt in the daytime and also at night during the full moon. Sitting on the Millenium M1 is very comfortable for these long periods of time. You can sit straight, or you can lean back. If you want to stand, you just have to lift the seat up against the tree. Millenium M1 has more space than other tree stands. The cables are very secure and are easy to adjust.

7. Lone Wolf Hand Climber Combo II Climbing Tree Stand $379.99 (price subject to change): "As a public hunter in Illinois I can not leave a stand in the woods over night. This means that I have to pack in and out all gear every day. The Lone Wolf hand climber is awesome for this. Due to the slim profile all of the weight is directly against my back. This is a welcome change from my other stand a Summit Tree stands Viper SD Climbing Tree stand which pulls you backwards as you walk and can hit your ankles while crossing streams etc. If you hunt like me and pack in a bow, pole pruner and snacks long distances over rugged terrain this is the stand you need.

8.  Hme Products Better Crossbow Holder, Olive $22.99 (price subject to change): "The HME Crossbow Hanger does a great job of holding my crossbow for a minimal cost. It is fairly secure with the provided screw, but I go a step further and put a ratchet strap on it just to be on the safe side (the thought of the crossbow hitting the ground.....ugh). It is fairly simple to install on your tree and comes with two extra hanging screws so you can move it to other stands if needed. A great plus."

9. Ameristep Doghouse Hunting Blind (Realtree Xtra Camo) $59.99 (price subject to change): "I bought a blind from "Sportsman Guide", made by Guide Gear. It was a joke, the poles for the top were a pain and the windows were so low you could not even see out of them from a chair, and you would have to sit on the ground. I bought this blind and I love it. You simply pop it up and its so easy. It takes a few minutes to figure out how to take it down, but the windows are high enough so you can sit in a fold up chair and see out of the windows fine. It is a very well made item and I like it very much.

10. Guide Gear Universal Tree Stand Containment System $49.99 (price subject to change): "This thing looks great, I put it out on my treestand this afternoon and it looks great. It's a pretty simple build (took me like 15 minutes) better instructions would have been nice, just make sure you look at the picture and try to match it. Also, the mounting mechanism is not a worth a dime. there is no real secure way to secure it to the tree. The best way I found was where the two holes are for the tree claw brackets, just drill a screw or hammer a nail through that hole into the tree. This was the stablest and securest solution I found because the two baby straps they give you do not get the job done. Overall, it seems sturdy, looks good, and provides visual and scent control to your hunting game. Definitely worth the purchase!"

Top Ten SmartPhones 2013

1. LG E960 Google Nexus 4 Unlocked GSM Phone, 8GB, International Version/Warranty Black $354.88 (price subject to change):  "I upgraded to the Nexus 4 from a Galaxy SII. So far I love it. The fact that it's made by Google and made specifically to run with the OS makes it really zippy without the glitches that most Android phones exhibit. Multitasking is a breeze with this phone. It probably has something to do with the fact that it has FOUR CORES. The camera is pretty good also. It has really cool features such as the photo sphere and panoramic pictures. The quality of the photos isn't any different from my Galaxy SII though (both 8MP). For the price ($350 on Google Play), this is the best phone one can purchase."

2. Samsung Galaxy S III Mini - I8190, White (Unlocked) $232.97 (price subject to change):  "This is the best phone I have ever owned. It is very fast and responsive. Easy to use and set-up. I loved the S2 but this is even better. Before I bought it I was debating whether to get this s3 or the iPhones but after comparing my phone with my friends iPhones, this was defiantly the best choice. I think all the features are great, but my favourite is the camera. It is 8MP but some of the settings and options make the camera brilliant, some of the photos I have taken are better than photos I have seen on professional cameras. The screen is excellent and is the clearest screen I have ever seen. The first thing I did when I got the phone was play the sample movie, it shows how clear and detailed the screen is. Videos in High Definition are very clear !!. The sound is very clear too. I like games, so i'll comment on that. The performance for games is amazing. I downloaded 'ShadowGun' Which is free for the S3 from the Samsung app store. The revised version makes use of the quad core processor in the phone. The visuals are details, smooth and hardly any jagged edges. It performs with a solid frame rate; and I've never experienced slowdown on any games. The graphics are powerful enough to emulate play-station games. Other notable features are the sensors in the phone which do more things than I've actually used yet. This phone, granted, is expensive. But it is so worth it. This phone is so good, it's better than a phone people have to hack to do things with.
Pros: Lightweight, technologically fantastic, excellent features, long battery, well designed.

3. HTC One 32GB Unlocked Phone - U.S. Warranty (Silver) $596.66 (price subject to change):  "I came to this phone after having been within the Blackberry ecosystem. Then started using this phone about 3 months ago. Just love it. Then I started comparing it to other phones including Samsung S4, iPhone 4s,5, etc. No comparison. The fit and finish of this phone is unique and so is the feel: Solid, tight and robust. Performance is smooth and stellar. Graphics?! GRAPHICS!?!? Walks over any other phones you dare to compare it to. Camera is superlative and spoiling since it does things no other leading phones venture into. Low light is ridiculous: The thing will take pictures under the lighting of a candlelight! Watching a movie on this "phone" redefine the experience and so, to my surprise, is reading. Now for the spoiling part. Since it is my first experience with Android, I came to think that other phones would perform similarly. Not at all. The responsiveness of this phone is shared by only the Samsung S4 and its picture quality is unmatched. A superlative smartphone. The standard bearer IMHO. SO pleased that I may acquire the "Max' if and when it comes out"

4. BLU Life Play Unlocked Dual Sim Phone with Quad-Core 1.2GHz Processor, Android 4.2 JB, 4.7-inch IPS HD Display, 4G HSPA+ up to 42Mbps and 8MP Camera (Pink) $227.90 (price subject to change):  "The phone has fantastic battery life. This phone regularly last me more than 24 hours. The screen is absolutely gorgeous. Who needs 1080p when you have a 720p screen of this quality? I must say that i was pleasantly surprised by how good the camera is. Also, I cannot explain how excited I was to find out this phone has a touch capture option for the camera. The only problem I've had with this phone is the vibration on a incoming message. Sometimes it vibrates as it should and sometimes it vibrates incorrectly. Not a big deal though. I think it might be a software issue. I tested a theory I had by installing 2 or 3 third party messaging apps and they always vibrated perfectly when I received a message. So hopefully there will be a software update or something, but it's not that big of a deal. Also, for people looking for accessories, I was able to find a few on eBay. They are for the same phone, just with a different branding on it. (Gionee Elife E3) They fit perfectly. Overall, this phone is fantastic. Can't beat this performance for such a great price."

5. Nokia Lumia 920 Factory Unlocked, 32GB, WP8, 8PM Carl Zeiss -Yellow- $343.99 (price subject to change): "I've always been a big fan of Nokia. After having Nokia N900 I was skeptical towards Windows OS. I was very surprised at how user friendly the operating system is. It doesn't lock, and everything works seamlessly. My favorite thing is the dedicated camera button. It allows you to take pictures even when your phone is locked. It takes couple seconds from taking it out of your pocket and taking a picture. The picture quality is unparalleled to iPhone and better than Samsung. Moreover the design is very solid. I've dropped it several times on the pavement and all it got was small panel dent. I'm not the advocate of carrying my phone in protective case so a solid phone is important for me. Weight is great to - you feel like you're holding a phone not a toy like in Samsung's case.

6. NEW VERIZON LG OCTANE CELL PHONE! $91.99 (price subject to change): "When I first got this phone, the pictures were crystal clear and the detail was amazing. The sound quality was wonderful, no static or dropped calls. People could hear me and no matter where I went, battery life lasted about 2 days with constant texting and about 2 calls each day. I've dropped it several times and there are chips at each of the corners, but this hasn't affected its performance at all. Now that I've had this phone for several years, some things have changed. I have the volume all the way up and sometimes open the phone to put it on speaker so that the larger inner speakers can help me hear whomever I'm speaking to. Even then, I have trouble hearing unless there isn't any background noise. The camera is still working well but the pictures aren't as stellar as they once were but it does what I ask it to. There is a photo editing capability within the phone that will allow you to turn and crop the photo as well as add stickers, change the lighting, clarity, etc. But don't confuse this with photoshop or other detailed photo editing apps. It stores a TON of contacts, photos, videos, etc. without complaint. However, it maxes out on text messages and will flash a memory warning whenever you open a new message so that you will go through your inbox and delete past messages. Occasionally (roughly once a month) it will freeze up and I have to remove the battery to reboot it. Other times, it will simply restart itself for no reason and with no warning. After four years, this phone is holding strong and still does what I ask of it. If you don't want a smartphone or a data plan, this is a great phone. I definitely recommend it to parents for their teenagers."

7. Blackberry Z10 16gb Black Factory Unlocked Gsm $300.00 (price subject to change): "It's lightning fast with the Snapdragon processor; the HUB is fantastic! It's like my personal assistant in a virtual office, alerting me when texts, e-mails and anything else of importance need my immediate attention. I've synced all my e-mails to the phone, I added my Twitter account, LinkedIn, etc. and that beautiful red light (the one every Blackberry owner knows about and loves to see blinking) tells me when the phone must be picked up. Screen size is great for watching movies.

8. LG Optimus 4X HD P880 Black Factory Unlocked International Version by New Generation Products LLC., $367.00 (price subject to change): "This phone is super fast. The system is fast when procesing information. It doesn't feel slow or heavy. The images are sharp, the camera is awesome, the video is too. The games are amazing the Nvidia Tegra chip is serious stuff. And the Quad Core 4 + 1 architecture means bussiness. I'm using it in AT&T and boy those phone fly. The apps are just what you want and need. No preloaded stuff from any provider just LG, the "quickmemo" feature is very usefull.

9. Sony Xperia SL LT26II Unlocked Android Phone--U.S. Warranty (Silver) $449.72  (price subject to change):  "It does everything android, has an amazing (Sony Bravia TV type) massive and clear screen. It doesn't focus on bright (as Samsung does) but rather on clarity, colors etc and HD videos are quite a vivid experience. The processor seems quick enough to me. It is solid (not something like a sheet of plastic), looks different from other phones around (Galaxy and HTC are slim). Camera is fine, no major comments as I'm not into photography. Soundcard is amazing, Im enjoying music as if heard for the first time on this phone. Battery life here is great. It doesn't hang at any time for me. So basically kicks a**. I'd highly recommend this phone to anyone who is over or not interested in the Apple hype and wants a solid media friendly phone and likes the design."

10. Samsung Galaxy S IV/S4 GT-I9500 Factory Unlocked Phone - International Version (White) $583.30 (price subject to change):  "Coming from an iPhone user for years, this phone is amazing. As I type this on my mac ironically enough, I was tired of Apple. I picked this up on my upgrade, and my first impressions were that it was WAY too big (screen wise) after about 2 weeks of using it, I look at iPhone screens and seriously question why I ever liked the screen on them. I can easily touch all corners of this screen without stretching too much and I have very average sized hands for a guy. Coming from a gamer, the S4 is a totally different breed from iPhone at least in the emulation area. It can run almost any N64/PSX game at 40-60fps constantly. The only thing I could complain about this phone is heating. Now it's a very powerful phone and it will run warm when gaming. I can't rave anymore about how everyone should at least give the S4 a chance. I used to make fun of their giant appearance, but now I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm hooked."

Top Ten Gifts For Hunters 2013

1. Howard Leight R-01526 Impact Sport Electronic Earmuff $43.99 (price subject to change): "The Howard Leight R-01526 is the perfect fit for a low budget high quality noise reduction solution for ear muffs. It has a nice compact fold-able design which does not put pressure on the foam ear pieces which over time would deform and reduce functionality and fit. The electronics will shut off after 4 hours so if you forget to turn it off after you are done using it, it saves the battery life. In case the batteries do expire, the batteries (2 AAA cells) are easily installed/replaced. The ON/OFF & volume control switch is easily reached with one hand so adjustment is just as easy. There is a 3.5 mm jack port for your MP3 player of choice so you can listen to digital recordings while still protecting your ears as well as being able to hear someone speaking in a normal conversation level around you in a noisy environment. It is easily adjustable for a comfortable fit and it noise reduction rating of 22 dBA makes it more than a match for even some other higher dollar models. It has a low profile so shooting against a rifle butt is not awkward nor clumsy. I would highly recommend this product to someone looking for a high quality, noise reducing electronic ear muff that will not break the bank."

2. Midland GXT1000VP4 36-Mile 50-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair) $58.53 (price subject to change): "These midlands are pretty decent little HTs for what they cost. They are not indestructible, but they are relatively robust--much tougher than most blister pack radios. I've used these in urban environments and in the woods with good results. I got about 1.5-2mi with one RT inside a wood frame house and the other inside a vehicle in a relatively populous, yet wooded area...line of sight was gone after 100 yards and there were lots of trees and houses in between. That is about all I would expect from an MBITR or other military grade 5w TR in those conditions, so I am relatively pleased. In a hunting situation, these worked well, and range was good, although I didn't do an objective test in this environment. Battery life...used these for a 10 hour day on several occasions and the battery meter never dropped, although this was admittedly mostly in receive, with maybe a dozen transmissions over the course of the day. These are an upgrade to the old 950 series, and I wish they retained the scramble function. Although it limited range, it was a neat feature. The only thing that would make these radios better is a TNC or BNC connection for the antenna so you could swap out a more efficient design when required. I use these with the Midland security earpieces, which also work great...good audio, stays in your ear, and works under muff-style hearing protection.
Caveats: You have to charge the included batteries to full charge before attempting to use. Otherwise the pack will probably not work well for you. Read the directions, and you will be fine. They are a NiMH rechargeable pack, and not sure on the self-discharge rate, so you may want to charge fresh before heading out. I use Tenergy low self-discharge NiMH batts in mine and they work great."

3. Moultrie A5 Low Glow Game Camera $59.56 (price subject to change):
"I was in the market for a trail camera to start prepping for bow season and was not keen on the $150+ price tags out there. I do not have my own land but I hunt on land with permission so I'm a little leery on leaving an expensive camera out there. This camera fit the bill perfectly...so much so, that I bought another one a week after buying the first one! At this price you can buy 4 for the price of 1 of the the other brands. The quality is perfect and out of 41 pictures recently, 38 were deer!"

4. MTM 50 Caliber Ammo Can (Black) $14.43 (price subject to change): " I own at least 8 of them both green and black. Most are loaded to brim with boxed ammo (5.56, .22LR, .40SW, 9mm, etc...). Not one of the cans have come open, bowed, buckled or done anything to indicated they are less than up to the job. The only thing I have not done is load one "full" of un-boxed ammo (I like keeping mine boxed). If I do, I will certainly update this review. Unlike metal cans they stack nicely and do not scratch other things you may rub against them when loading and unloading from closets and cars. I like them. I will buy more."

5. Duck Commander Camo Max Duck Call$23.12  (price subject to change): "This call will reach ducks a long ways out. Very user friendly and for the price why not? Duck Commander is a name you can trust and there products speak for themselves."

6. Bushnell Trophy Red Dot TRS-25 3 MOA Red Dot Reticle Riflescope, 1x25mm (Matte) $69.99 (price subject to change): "I originally bought this sight for my pistol and it worked great on it, but when I got it I was so impressed with the sight I mounted it on my 12 ga. It is well built, and is just as good as my aimpoint sight, but 100s of dollars cheaper. It is light weight (6.4 OZ) and is very accurate. The battery life is good (I left it on for 5 days and it was still working well). I have used about every Red dot sight on the market, and for the money this is the sight to get.Perfect for CQB (close combat battle) and home defense."

7. Barnett Outdoors Lil Banshee Jr. Compound Archery Set $29.98 (price subject to change): "I bought this for my son to use on our summer vacation. It was awesome. At first it was a bit difficult for him to draw it back. Eventually he got the hang of it. This is not a toy it is really well built and the arrows go pretty far. Accuracy is good at shorter distances. The only thing I would recommend is buying about 5 more practice arrows. Its fun and educational I set up targets for him and his friends and they had a blast. Make sure they use it under adult supervision because again it is not a toy."

8. Smith & Wesson SWBG2TS Border Guard 2 Rescue Knife with 40% Serrated Tanto Blade, Glass Break, and Seatbelt Cutter, Black $20.79 (price subject to change): "Seeing as I am Active Duty Air Force, I am accustomed to using automatic knives from Benchmade and Gerber. Not surprisingly, I was skeptical on the quality, name and durability of these knives. I went ahead and ordered one and it arrived this afternoon. What came out of the mailer absolutely floored me. This is no knife; it is practically a POCKET SWORD. It has a nice weight and feel to it, and it has a kind of a scary appearance if one has never seen these before. I would like to get the non-serrated version later on. For around $20, one cannot go wrong in having one of these for your car or carrying one on your person in an emergency. I have not tested the glass breaker and/or seat belt cutter, and I hope I will never have to.

9. Celestron SkyMaster Giant 15x70 Binoculars with Tripod Adapter $63.95 (price subject to change): "I took these out to some dark skies recently and they were incredible, stars looked like i could touch them, crisp pinpoint stars all around. These were easy to use will laying on my back, however, i must say while standing or sitting up a tripod is recommended to steady the view as they are heavy for hand held observing. I picked up a sturdy but inexpensive tripod with use with these binos which has made it possible to use for birding or bison watching in Yellowstone. The price is terrific i could not find them any cheaper but plenty out there way more expensive. Get these and with the saved cash pick up a tripod and you will be on your way to some great viewing."

10. Garmin eTrex 20 Worldwide Handheld GPS Navigator $165.99 (price subject to change): "I go all the way back with GPS, all the way back to when they really were a joke. They have come so far. I'm super critical on a unit, and this one leaves nothing out. It took less than 15 minutes to reprogram/customize the unit so it talks Topo Map (UTM) as well as the traditional Mark & Go waypoint deal. The unit is now set up so when it is turned on it picks up the last waypoint and goes right to the Navigation page where I get a compass bearing, distance to go, and GPS accuracy. The Russian satellites are a plus. On average I get less than 2 meter precision. The unit is FAST to lock on and works in the cabin under the metal roof which is a first as my other units won't. I use the Garmin GPS units for hunting and download the waypoints and tracks right into Google Earth. I consider a Garmin GPS every bit as valuable as the rifle I carry in the woods. Two thumbs up Garmin on the 30, it's everything it's advertised and then some.
